Maintaining energy security and coping with climate change are common challenges faced by the world, and accelerating the green and low-carbon development of energy is a common opportunity for the world. While continuing to promote its own energy transformation, China is actively promoting and contributing to the global energy transformation, adhering to the principle of “common cause, common construction and sharing”, seeking sustainable development of global energy with other countries, and contributing to the establishment of a fair, equitable, balanced and inclusive global energy governance system.
China is actively practicing the concept of green development, unswervingly pushing forward the transformation of its development mode, and extensively carrying out international cooperation on energy, thus injecting “China's momentum” into global green development.
China's green energy development has become the engine of global energy transformation; since 2013, China's new renewable energy installations have accounted for more than 40% of the world's new renewable energy installations, and will account for more than half of the world's new installations in 2023. The Renewable Energy 2023 report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) points out that China is the global leader in renewable energy and the main driver of the rapid and large-scale growth of global renewable energy.From 2014 to 2023, the share of global non-fossil energy consumption grows from 13.6% to 18.5%, of which China's incremental contribution to non-fossil energy consumption is 45.2%.
China's new energy industry provides green power for the world. China has realized the rapid development of its new energy industry on the basis of continuous technological innovation, a perfect industrial chain and supply chain system, full market competition and the advantages of a mega-scale market, which has enriched the global supply, eased global inflationary pressure, and contributed to the joint efforts of all countries in the world in combating climate change and enhancing the well-being of mankind. Photovoltaic modules and wind power equipment produced in China have created conditions for the widespread economic utilization of renewable energy in more and more countries. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) reports that over the past 10 years, the average unit cost of electricity for wind power and photovoltaic power generation projects around the world has cumulatively dropped by more than 60% and 80% respectively, a large part of which is attributed to China's contribution.
China's opening up has created new opportunities for deepening international cooperation in clean energy. China continues to build a first-class business environment that is market-oriented, rule of law-oriented and internationalized, and actively promotes the liberalization and facilitation of energy trade and investment, providing opportunities for foreign-funded enterprises to share the dividends of China's energy transformation. China has fully implemented the national treatment before entry plus negative list management system, and has fully liberalized the access of foreign investment in the energy sector, except for nuclear power plants. A catalog of industries encouraging foreign investment has been issued, and policy support for foreign investment in clean energy and other fields has been strengthened. The scale of energy investment in China by multinational corporations such as General Electric, Bibi and Siemens has been steadily increasing, and foreign investment projects such as the offshore wind power project of Electricite de France, the Tesla electric car manufacturing project in Shanghai, and the new energy battery project of LG in Nanjing, have landed in China one after another.
